Neil Wilson to retire as Victoria Racing Club Chairman, Vin Cox appointed 23rd Chairman

1 October 2026 • Written by VRC

The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) today announced that Chairman Neil Wilson has advised the Board that he will not stand for election this year and will conclude his tenure as Chairman and Board Director at this year’s Annual General Meeting, scheduled for the 15th of December.

Following a comprehensive succession process, the VRC Board has appointed Vin Cox as the Club's 23rd Chairman to lead the Club into its next chapter.

Cox will formally assume the role at the conclusion of the AGM on December 15, with Wilson remaining Chairman until then and working closely with Cox to support a smooth transition, particularly through the upcoming Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Appointed to the VRC Board in June 2020, Cox is a member of the VRC Racing Sub-Committee and currently chairs the Masterplan Committee, where he has made a significant contribution to shaping the Club's long-term vision for the Flemington precinct and the facilities, experiences and opportunities it will deliver for members and the wider community. He brings extensive experience across racing, bloodstock and business leadership, including senior executive roles as Managing Director of Godolphin Australia and Managing Director of Magic Millions, where he played a leading role in expanding the Gold Coast Carnival. His combination of industry knowledge, his national and international racing network, major event experience, and strategic leadership, together with a strong commitment to members and stakeholders, positions him well to lead the VRC into the future.

Wilson’s retirement will bring to a close 14 years of service and leadership at the Club, having joined the VRC Board in 2012 and serving the Club in several key leadership roles, including Honorary Treasurer, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and most recently Chairman since 2020. He is the only person in Club history to serve as both CEO and Club Chairman.

Throughout his tenure, he has shaped the Club's strategic direction and driven its long-term growth. His leadership guided the VRC through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring the Melbourne Cup Carnival continued during this period. He championed ongoing investment in Flemington and the Melbourne Cup Carnival, positioning the Club for future success. Wilson played a key role in securing the VRC's media rights partnerships with Tabcorp and Nine Entertainment, and in establishing and strengthening international racing relationships, enhancing the VRC's global standing.

Working closely with the VRC Board and VRC CEO Kylie Rogers, Cox will oversee the continuation of the Club's growth.

This growth is reflected in recent Club achievements, including the largest Melbourne Cup Carnival crowds since 2018, with the 2025 Carnival drawing more than 286,000 attendees. Membership has grown to a record of more than 36,000, confirming the VRC's position as the world's largest members' racing club, while the Club has also returned to net profitability in 2026.

Victoria Racing Club Chairman, Neil Wilson

“It has been a privilege to serve the Victoria Racing Club for the past 14 years, including as CEO and Chairman over the past decade. I am incredibly thankful to have had the opportunity to work alongside VRC Chairmen, VRC Board Directors, CEOs, and the many talented and committed people across the VRC.

I would also like to thank our members, partners, the media, government, and the broader racing industry for their support, engagement, and friendship throughout my tenure. There is a large community behind everything the VRC does, and it has been an honour to be part of it.

I will be forever grateful to those at the VRC who have supported me and had the conviction to believe in our direction at times when it mattered most. This is a very special organisation, and it is important to preserve the VRC’s unique blend of history and tradition while embracing opportunity and progress.

While my role with the Club will come to an end, I will always be a proud VRC member. My passion for the VRC, the Melbourne Cup Carnival, and everything the Club represents will remain unchanged. I look forward to seeing the Club continue to thrive and build on its proud legacy for generations to come.

Congratulations to Vin Cox on becoming the 23rd VRC Chairman. I have every confidence that, under his leadership and with the support of the VRC Board, CEO Kylie Rogers, and the VRC team the VRC will continue its positive momentum well into the future.”
